Here is a small selection of highlights from the last few days :

• The pub in which I've started working have, I have only recently discovered, a weekly comedy night. So I am hoping to be scheduled to work every Thursday evening. The standard was not exactly stratospheric, which possibly amuses me more than comedians with actual talent. There was one local guy who adopted the persona of an American struggling to get to grips with Welsh culture. He wore a Stetson and those cord/lace-type-things worn dangling from the neck (anyone know wot they're called?). He bombed really badly. There was another guy who did a short routine about trying to get to grips with American culture. Unfortunately for him, he was not quite as current as he seemed to believe. Yes, we all know that the Americans think that the word 'bum' means something different from wot we do. And we even know what a 'fanny-pack' really is. Next.
  
  
• I went to a pub on Sunday with my brother, his wife, and some of their friends. One of the friends is a nurse, and she had some quite startlingly foul stories. There was one where a patient was given two jars, and was asked to provide two urine samples. "Number one can go in this jar, and number two can go in this jar," he was instructed. He took an atypically long time, but finally put his product in the drop-off hatch; whereupon it became readily apparent that the word "urine" had clearly not properly registered, and that the patient had interpreted "number two" accordingly. She also told of being drenched with the contents of a bedpan. The patient responsible for filling it clearly had an infection, she opined, as the contents were "well cloudy". How perfectly charming!
  
  
• A romantic pearl that I'm glad I didn't miss :
