In lieu of *actual* blogging, here's wishing everyone a jolly new year:
Big love, y'all xx
Hey there,
It occurs to me that I've not been saying much recently. And that is set to continue. So here's some music to listen to instead. Waterloo are double-lush. Simple tunes and lilting harmonies are the way forward. I wish them success and happiness. Here's a song :
And their website is at www.waterloomusic.net.
That's all. Bye!
Hallo there,
I want to share a track with you guys. Or, more accurately, two versions of the same song. Here is the version that was shortlisted for my recent Top Twenty :
I think Alabama 3 are ace. Not in the least because they're from Brixton, and there's actually about eight of them. If you've only heard the track wot off of 'The Sopranos', then you should really dig a little deeper. Don't forget that homework is for *your benefit*.
Now, for shame, I didn't realise that this was a cover until quite recently. For all I know, the original may have been on top of the charts for an entire decade after it was released; but somehow it managed to pass me by. But here it is, and it's lovely :
This is another cover that ticks the 'reinterpretation' box with a distinctive flourish. I also like how the Alabama 3 version provides juxtaposition, mirroring the original by taking the perspective of the second party. Hmmm... I think I've maybe gone a bit 'Pseud's Corner'. Enough from me - listen and enjoy!
I was listening to Radio Six the other day, and a couple of tools were presenting. They played a session version of 'Where I Find My Heaven', and harped on at tedious length that this was the only Gigolo Aunts song that anybody knew; and they only did so because it featured on 'Game On'.
As I quite enjoyed doing the 'Top Twenty Songs' series, I was looking for another excuse to upload more tracks. And those tweakers unwittingly gave me the idea of bunging up some skill tracks wot people might not have heard. To wit - buried treasure. So, first we shall have a Gigolo Aunts song :
Contrary to the DJs' claims, I know a handful of songs by these chaps. I bought the 'Mrs Washington' single when it came out (pre-dating, as it did, 'Game On'); and saw them live. It is notable that I can remember them, but not who they were supporting. During one song, I remarked to a chum that they sounded a bit like a cross between the Lemonheads and Teenage Fanclub. Then during the bridge of one song, they treated us to snippets from 'Confetti' and 'Norman 3'. How unlikely is that? Although I now personally think Buffalo Tom a better comparison.
Anyway, I hope you like it.
